AB 1482 CPI Calculator

Updated 01/10/25

It is very important to remember that AB 1482 went into FULL EFFECT on January 1st, 2020 and expires January 1st, 2030. This new law will cap rent increases at 5% plus CPI OR 10%, whichever is lower.

You can use our member’s only CPI Calculator tool to look up your property’s county CPI.

Things to keep in mind:

  • You cannot raise rent by more than 5%, plus CPI, compared to the lowest rent charged for the unit in the 12 months before the increase takes effect.
  • Don’t use this calculator to calculate rent increases on properties governed by local rent control rules.
  • The CPI information represents the change of CPI% from April of the previous year to April of the current year.
  • The CPI shown in the results for allowable rent increase applies to increased made on or after August 1st, 2023.

If you have any questions on AB 1482, please see Reminder: Are you AB 1482 ready?

Please consult with your legal counsel BEFORE raising rent at this time, since there are federal, state and local rent increase regulations to consider.
